5 Tips For Your First Dance Competition

Preparing for your first dance competition? If so, it can be a bit nerve-wracking, especially if you’ve never been to a dance studio. Like others, you want to do your best. Maybe you want to avoid any problems before the big day. Below are some tips to help you prepare.

1. Practice a lot

With practice, you can become perfect at what you do. Practicing will help you get better at your steps and understand timing. In addition, it will help you increase your stamina. Aside from that, the exercise strengthens your breathing and legs. So it’s a good idea to devote a little time each day to your exercise sessions.

2. Be a teacher

Whenever you hit the dance floor, make sure you think of it as a demo and not a dance performance. You should pretend to be teaching others to dance. Don’t judge your performance. That way, every move you make is executed gracefully and to perfection. The jury will be impressed.

3. Avoid last-minute changes

Maybe you don’t want to worry too much about your routine. Trying to be perfect is not a good idea. For example, if you try to perfect one movement, you can end up destroying your entire routine. You should just stick to what you have practiced.

You just have to let it be. You don’t have to make it look better. If you really want to make small changes, you can do so, but after getting your score back. Additionally, keep in mind that small changes can make changes to what you pack.

4. Eat right

For best performance, make sure you’re eating the right meal before your competition. Eating the wrong meals will make you feel dizzy or lazy during the performance. After a few performances, you’ll know what type of meals work best for you. It may be difficult at the beginning, but you should keep trying.

Instead of a big meal, you might want to have a few snacks before the competition. This will help you feel energized instead of feeling bloated or heavy. You can look at healthy foods like vegetables and protein-based foods. For snack options, try apples and peanut butter. Other fine options to try are crackers, cheese, hummus and carrots.

5. Let go

Perhaps you want to feel comfortable during your performance. Actually, judges should get the impression that you look natural when you dance on the floor. If you think they want you to look good, you are wrong. They don’t want that. You might not want to look jittery while performing different moves. At the end of the day, it all boils down to your practice.
