Diet and Exercise Tips for the Mesomorph Body Type

A mesomorph is born with a specific body type that is inherited from the most dominant traits you inherited from your family.

If you tend to gain fat a little slower than you do muscle, chances are you’re a mesomorph. This somatotype is known to be well proportioned, strong and naturally athletic.

An overweight mesomorphic woman will still have an enviable waist-to-hip ratio, with a classic hourglass shape. If you lose fat and get fit, you will still have large breasts in relation to your waist and hips.

An overweight mesomorphic man will look less flabby and unfit than his endomorph or even ectomorph counterpart because those broad shoulders tapering to a proportionately narrow waist camouflage plenty of stored donuts or beer.

As a mesomorph, you have inherited a gifted body shape. If you’re willing to put in a reasonable effort in nutrition and training, your body will reward you with lean or massive muscle tone that, once achieved, is easily maintained. Your body will thrive on a clean, healthy diet.

Your metabolism is naturally very efficient and your bone structure is balanced.

What more do you want?

Probably 3 things, mostly

A target

Break down your overall goal into a final goal (year/s), a medium-term goal (months), and a short-term goal (weeks). Continue to monitor your progress towards each aspect of your goal and be firm but forgive yourself.

A reason for success

This has to be a reason that drives you, keeps you focused and compels you to make an effort. No flabby phrases like, “I should really try to lose some weight,” but something like, “I’m not willing to be overweight, unfit, and unhealthy anymore.” The new me starts today.”

Well, this particular one worked for me even though I’m just an inferior pear-shaped endomorph. (Mind you, thanks to a bit of regular strength training, I now have the shoulders of a mesomorph).

A plan

A challenging but achievable diet and exercise program will allow you to achieve your goal in its entirety. You need to do some research to find the plan that works for you. Go ahead and do as much research as you can before you begin.

I guess one thing in particular can hinder mesomorphs in their quest to lose fat and get fit.

A mesomorph tends to look good whether they’re fit and toned or a bit overweight, so your motivation to lose fat and get fit just might not be strong enough. But if you don’t make the most of the great body type you were born with, you will never reach your full potential in terms of health, fitness and looks.

It would be a shame to overlook the great benefit of being born a mesomorph. A missed opportunity. When you treat your body with focused attention, rather than neglecting it, you’ll look and (more importantly) feel absolutely amazing.

Do it. Be the best you can be (you’ve got a head start on the rest of us!)
