The importance of health has always been ingrained in our minds; so much so that we are often reminded of the phrase that if health is lost, all is lost. Staying 100% healthy is a challenging task these days, thanks to inorganic food, polluted drinking water, smog and, last but not least, lifestyle disruptions. A balanced diet and regular exercise are important. Keep checking your BMI and make sure it’s under control. Obesity leads to a number of disorders and diseases, so try to cut down on carbohydrates and avoid junk food as much as possible.

Healthy eating should begin in infancy. Babies should only be fed breast milk because that is the only and most nutritious food a baby lives on for the first few months. If the baby is breastfed, the mother should follow a diet that specifically focuses on foods rich in iron and zinc. Calcium is also needed to strengthen bones since a new mom has to walk around a lot. Malt-based foods, derived primarily from barley, are a highly nutritious substance. Aqueous extracts of barley malt, called “wort”, contain all the essential B-family vitamins (niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, thiamine, nicotinic acid, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), biotin and folic acid); plus amino acids and protein, minerals (like calcium, magnesium, potassium and zinc) and soluble fiber (glucans). Malted Food drinks like Choco Malt, Malto Vitaa, Champion, Choco Vita, etc. are excellent sources for healthy living.

Once the baby turns 5 to 6 months old, the weaning process takes place. The mother will gradually replace or add other food sources with breast milk. Usually mothers feed baby formula or mashed bananas and sometimes mashed rice with cooked lentils. It is advisable to give the baby a specially prepared complementary food mixed with fruits, vegetables and various legumes. In other words, the kit should be a reasonable mix of protein – easy to digest and aids in rapid growth, carbohydrates – acts as an energy booster, vitamin, calcium and phosphorus for strong teeth and bones, iron and zinc for rich blood formation. This type of weaning food is very good for baby’s health and growth.

Nowadays, supermarkets are filled with processed foods. Before you buy anything off the shelf, check the labels – if there are more than 6 ingredients, it’s most likely processed food. Please avoid them because you should work towards eating healthy foods that contain no ingredients other than themselves. It is very difficult to change eating habits once our taste buds have developed a liking for a particular food. So the trick is to develop a taste for healthy food. Consuming sugar in the form of ice cream or candy is okay sometimes, but not always. Instead, you can replace them with natural sugars found in dates, grapes, homemade honey, maple syrup, etc.
